Channel Islands 2-day on MV Truth; October 19-20th; 2018
Join us on Truth Aquatics MV Truth for two full days of diving the Northern Channel Islands! These waters teem with life due to the temperate, nutrient-rich waters, making every dive a new experience and ideal for lobster hunters and photographers alike. Dive locations vary from hundred-foot-tall walls and enormous pinnacles to kelp forests and rocky reefs. The crew aims to start at San Miguel Island and work its way down to Santa Rosa then Santa Cruz. We aim for 3-4 dives the first day and 3 dives on the second day, with the opportunity for a night dive (weather permitting).
2-Day Discovery dives to the Northern Channel Islands are geared toward skill levels ranging from newly certified divers to intermediate level divers and is also recommended for divers looking to get back into the water after a break from diving. Dives will take place in locations with less challenging conditions that allow for a fun, relaxing experience and to hone your dive skills. The dive sites are typically more sheltered and under 50 feet in depth. If you are ready for a less rigorous but adventurous getaway, this is a great trip for you. It's like diving Monterey, but clearer and (a little) warmer!
The diving is definitely lots of fun - water temps range from a low of low 50's degrees Fahrenheit to a high of low low 70's degrees Fahrenheit; the visibility can range from twenty feet to sixty/seventy feet, occasionally more. Beautiful kelp forests. Diving, unless in a class, is NOT guided; air is not monitored; and diving is as much or as little as you want. It is absolutely realistic to do four dives per day and even night dives. Accommodations are pretty spartan bunks rather than state rooms but you're there for the diving and camaraderie.
You need to bring ALL (and I mean all) your kit including tank and weights. You need to bring your own bedding (the boat provides a pillow and a lovely crushed velour blanket on top of a naugahyde mattress). You need to supply your own alcoholic beverages if applicable.
Included: You will have at least one Wallin's instructor on board to help with coordination. The dive sites are simple and there is little to no current.
Sleeping arrangement is dormitory style. Showers and a clothes dryer is on board.
Gear transport is offered free of charge to Wallin's customers. Contact the shop if you would like your gear transported. Some people like to fly down. Just remember, you must wait 18 hours before flying home.
